Bees Win Streak Ends in Clinton

Clinton, IA – A four-run first inning for the Clinton LumberKings (15-6, 29-16) set the tone as they defeated the Burlington Bees (17-8, 28-22) by a final score of 11-1 in eight innings on July 24 at NelsonCorp Field.
In the top of the first inning, the Bees got singles on consecutive pitches by Juan Fernandez (SCC) and Christian Graves (Mount Mercy), but Clinton starting pitcher Chance Key
pitched out of it before the LumberKings scored four in the bottom of the frame on five hits. Clinton would add three more in the bottom of the third inning and Key would toss six scoreless frames and leave the game with the LumberKings up 9-0.
The Bees lone run came in the seventh as Tanner Reinartz (Huntington) and Johnnie Ankenbruck (Huntington) had back-to-back hits.
A two-run bottom of the eighth would end the game for Clinton.
Burlington committed a season high five errors in the loss.
Fernandez and Reinartz highlighted the offense with three and two hits, respectively. With the victory, the LumberKings jump back into first place in the Northwest Division, leading the Bees by percentage points. Burlington returns home tomorrow to face the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes with first pitch set for 6:30 pm at Community Field.
