Burlington’s Offense Comes Alive Late for Comeback Win Over Quincy

Burlington, IA – Down 5-1 going into the bottom of the fifth, the Burlington Bees (14-7, 24-21) scored 15 runs across the last four innings as they pulled away for a 16-8 win over the Quincy Doggy Paddlers (6-12, 22-23) at Community Field on July 19. 

The first run of the game was scored on a bases loaded walk from Kade Knock (Mount Mercy) before Quincy starting pitcher Dean Staudacher got out of the inning and followed it 

with three scoreless frames. The Doggy Paddlers used a five-run top of the third inning on four hits to go up 5-1, which held until the bottom of the fifth inning. Troy Peltz (Iowa Western) jumpstarted the offense in the fifth with an RBI double to score Foti Rigopoulos (Illinois). Adam Kudronowicz (Iowa Western) and Lucas Krebs (Illinois) each drove runners in to make it a one-run game going into the sixth.

Bees starting pitcher Aidan Terronez (Illinois-Chicago) settled in after the third, pitching three consecutive scoreless innings to end his outing. Terronez would pick up a win in his 

second consecutive start. Burlington's offense retook the lead with a four-run sixth inning. The game tying run was scored on a passed ball before Peltz tripled to right center field to make it a 7-5 game. An error allowed Peltz to score to extend the lead to three. Johnnie Ankenbruck (Huntington) started off the bottom of the seventh with a solo home run, his third of the year against Paddler pitching. Peltz singled in Juan Fernandez (SCC) to make it nine unanswered runs for the Bees. Quincy would answer with a three-run top of the eighth before Burlington countered with a six-run bottom half of the inning, with a Kudronowicz three run home run being the cherry on top. 

Kade LaCoste (LSU-Eunice) retired the final five batters of the game to record his first save of the season. Peltz had three hits and five RBIs in the game to take over the team lead in runs batted in. He finished a home run shy of the cycle. Kudronowicz and Ankenbruck had multi-hit games as well. 

The Bees have now won eight straight games, as they'll look to keep up their winning ways when they take on the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes on Tuesday night at Community Field, with the game beginning at 6:30 pm, following tomorrow night's Community Basket Extravaganza, which starts at 6:30 pm at Community Field.
