Offense Leads Bees to Road Win in Quincy
Quincy, IL – Runs in each of the first six innings set the tone as the Burlington Bees (9-7, 20-21) never trailed, defeating the Quincy Doggy Paddlers (5-9, 21-20) by a final score of 12-4
at QU Stadium on July 14. Jace Figuereo (South Dakota State) started the scoring in the top of the first inning, scoring on a wild pitch before Patrick Geary (Mesa CC) retired the Paddlers in order in the bottom of the frame. In the second, Johnnie Ankenbruck (Huntington) sent a solo home run over the right field fence to put the Bees up 2-0. It was one of four Burlington homers on the day. Quincy would answer with a two-run bottom of the second to tie the game before the two teams would trade runs in the third. Burlington dominated the middle innings, starting in the fourth as Figuereo singled in Ankenbruck and later scored after a stolen base and a throwing error. Lane Spieker (Mount Mercy) and Christian Graves (Mount Mercy) both made their Bees debuts tonight. The two hit back-to-back home runs on consecutive pitches to double Burlington's lead in the fifth to 7-3. The Paddlers answered with a solo home run before the Bees blew the game open with a four-run sixth inning. Quincy shortstop Ignacio Gonzalez booted a ground ball off the bat of Rowen Bergeron (LSU-Eunice) that had the opportunity to be an inning ending double play. Instead, everyone was safe and a run scored. The next batter, Troy Peltz (Iowa Western), blasted a three-run home run to put Burlington up 11-4. Korbin Woerly (Spoon River) got the win out of relief, tossing scoreless sixth and seventh innings. Kade LaCoste (LSU-Eunice) finished the game with two shutout frames. The Bees have now won five of their last six games. Burlington and Quincy will square off again tomorrow, but in Burlington, with first pitch set for 6:30 pm at Community Field.
