Clinton Beats Burlington on Independence Day
Clinton, IA – The Clinton LumberKings (5-2, 19-12) scored the first nine runs of the game to defeat the Burlington Bees (4-4, 15-18) by a final score of 11-4 at NelsonCorp Field on July 4. Clinton scored two runs in the bottom of the first before starting pitcher Riley Fuller (Evangel) settled in, throwing three scoreless frames. The score was 2-0 Clinton going into the bottom of the fifth until Drew Terpins cleared the bases on a double to put the LumberKings up 5-0. Clinton would go on to score four more in the bottom of the sixth to take a 9-0 advantage.
Juan Fernandez (SCC) had all four of the Bees RBIs. Three of them came on a three run home run in the seventh, for the sophomore's first home run of the summer. He also singled home
Tanner Reinartz (Huntington) in the ninth. With the win, the LumberKings defeated the Bees for the second day in a row and completed back-to-back wins over Burlington on the 4th of July. The same two teams will square off tomorrow for a 2:00 pm doubleheader at NelsonCorp Field leading into the all-star break.
