Bees Rally to Walk Off LumberKings
Burlington, IA – Down by three runs going into the bottom of the eighth, the Burlington Bees (4-2, 15-16) rattled off three runs to tie the game before their first walk off win of the season in the bottom of the ninth to defeat the Clinton LumberKings (3-2, 17-12) on July 2 at Community Field.
In the eighth, Adam Kudronowicz (Iowa Western) cut the Clinton lead to 5-3 on an RBI single. Two batters later, Troy Peltz (Iowa Western) blasted a ball over the right field fence to tie the game. Jake Weissenberger (Mount Mercy) got the win for the Bees. The righty stranded two runners on base in the top of the 9th as Burlington had a chance to walk it off for the first time this season.
After a groundout to begin the bottom of the ninth, four consecutive Bees walked with two being intentional to win the game. Sean Kang (SIU-Edwardsville) recorded his first RBI as a Bee with a single in the second. Clinton had three run third inning to take their first lead of the game, which they held until the eighth. Bryce Loker (South Dakota State) started on the hill, going three innings allowing three runs while striking out four batters. Kade LaCoste (LSU-Eunice) tossed four innings out of the bullpen.
With the win, Burlington now has four consecutive victories, their longest streak of the season.
The Bees are back at home tomorrow against Clinton, with first pitch against the LumberKings set for 6:30 pm.
