Bees Take Slugfest over Pistol Shrimp
Peru, IL – The Burlington Bees (1-2, 12-16) scored five in the top of the first inning to set the tone for the rest of the game, as they never trailed in a 20-10 win over the Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp (1-2, 9-19) at Schweickert Stadium on June 30. Rowen Bergeron (LSU-Eunice) cleared the bases with a three run double in the first. That came after Lucas Krebs (Illinois) singled home Jace Figuereo (South Dakota State). Bergeron would score the final run of the inning on a wild pitch. In the top of the fourth, the Bees would extend the lead to 7-0 after RBIs from Krebs and Adam Kudronowicz (Iowa Western). Illinois Valley would score one in the bottom of the fourth before Kudronowicz drove in Figuereo on a single in the sixth. In the bottom of the sixth, the Pistol Shrimp scored six runs off two relievers to cut the deficit to one before Ty Mikkelsen (Iowa) stranded runners on the corners with a strikeout. Burlington would respond by scoring seven runs in the seventh inning. Troy Peltz (Iowa Western) scored the first run of the inning after Sean Kang (SIU-Edwardsville) reached on an error. Juan Fernandez (SCC) was hit by a pitch and Krebs was walked with the bases loaded to score the next two runs. Then, Kudronowicz and Peltz each recorded hits to the opposite field to plate a combined four runners to make the score 15-7. Krebs has five hits and RBIs on the day. Those hits are the most by a Bee in a game this season. Aidan Terronez (Illinois-Chicago) started on the mound for the Bees. The lefty tossed four innings, allowing one run while striking out six batters. Spencer Spinks (Triton) got the win for Burlington to improve his mark to 2-0 on the season. Mikkelsen tossed 2 1/3 innings out of relief, surrendering just one unearned run. The Bees improve to 1-2 in the second half and 2-0 in Peru on the season. Burlington and Illinois Valley meet again tomorrow for a 4:35 doubleheader at Schweickert Stadium.
