LumberKings Rally to Defeat Bees
Burlington, IA – Eight unanswered runs for the Clinton LumberKings (2-0, 16-10) between the sixth through eighth innings allowed them to rally and defeat the Burlington Bees (0-2, 11-16) at Community Field on June 28. Bees starting pitcher Tate Slagle (Iowa) began the game by throwing five innings without allowing a run or a hit. On top of that, Burlington's offense spotted the team a five run lead. They started the game off with three runs in the first. A sacrifice fly from Adam Kudronowicz (Iowa Western) plated the first run of the game, scoring Jace Figuereo (South Dakota State). The next batter, Tanner Reinartz (Huntington), homered to left center field. The lead would be stretched to five on RBIs from Kudronowicz and Dalton Miller (Georgia Gwinnett) in the third. The game unraveled for Burlington in the sixth, as Clinton scored three runs on one hit to make it a 5-3 game. In the top of the seventh, an RBI single by the LumberKings made it a one run game. Two batters later, Isaac Sobieszczyk sent a home run over the center field fence to give Clinton their first lead of the game. Gavin Awbrey of the LumberKings would add onto the lead with a two run homer in the top of the eighth. Burlington (0-2, 11-16) loses their third home game in a row.
