Bees Begin Second Half with Home Loss to Dans

Burlington, IA – The Danville Dans (1-0, 16-10) scored in seven of the nine innings and never trailed as they defeated the Burlington Bees (0-1, 11-15) by a final score of 8-5 at Community Field on June 27.  Danville's offense was hot from the start, scoring runs in the first and second innings to go up 2-0.  In the bottom half of the inning, Rowen Bergeron (LSU-Eunice) tied the game with his team leading fifth home run of the season. The Dans would respond immediately by scoring the next three runs, with two in the third and one in the fifth. Burlington cut the lead back to two with a Lucas Krebs (Illinois) single, scoring Juan Fernandez (SCC) following a triple, one of two triples of the game for the Bees shortstop. Danville continued their scoring outbreak with RBI singles in the sixth and seventh innings to take a 7-3 lead.  In the bottom of the seventh, Burlington cut the lead in half as Fernandez drove home Jace Figuereo (South Dakota State) on a triple, his second of the day. Fernandez would come in to score on a sacrifice fly from Krebs. However, the Bees were unable to add on as the tying run reached first base with one out in the inning.  Kade LaCoste (LSU-Eunice) surrendered a leadoff home run to begin the eighth frame but then would strike out six of the next seven batters that he faced out of the bullpen.  With the loss, Burlington drops their second half opener as Danville now leads the season series 2-1. The final meeting between these teams is on Saturday, July 11 at Community Field. The Bees conclude a six game homestand tomorrow, hosting the Clinton LumberKings with first pitch set for 4:00 pm at Community Field.
