Bees Turned Back by Pistol Shrimp
Burlington, IA – The Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp (7-17) never trailed as they scored the final eight runs of the game to put it away and defeat the Burlington Bees (11-14) by a score of 14-5 at Community Field on June 25. It was a back and forth affair for a majority of the contest. The two teams traded runs in the first inning. Illinois Valley scored on an RBI groundout while Burlington answered on a leadoff home run by Foti Rigopoulos (Illinois).
In the 3rd, the Pistol Shrimp used a home run and a double off Bees starting pitcher Bryce Loker (South Dakota State) to retake the lead.
Adam Kudronowicz (Iowa Western) provided the equalizer with a two run single in the bottom half of the inning to score Juan Fernandez (SCC) and Lucas Krebs (Illinois). Illinois Valley would go on to score the next three runs with two in the fifth and one in the sixth.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Bees cut the lead back to one on a pair of bases loaded walks. The Pistol Shrimp went on to score the final eight runs of the game, with two in the eighth and six in the ninth. Burlington falls to 2-2 on the home stand, which continues tomorrow night against the Normal CornBelters to wrap up the first half which is slated to begin at 6:30 pm at Community Field.
