Clinton Outslugs Burlington for Rivalry Win

Clinton, IA – The Clinton LumberKings (13-8) never trailed as they jumped out to a three run lead in bottom of the first inning and matched the Burlington Bees (9-12) for the remainder of the game, as Clinton stayed in first place in the northwest division by picking up a 10-7 win at NelsonCorp Field on June 20. Two walks and a hit batter started the first inning for Clinton against starting pitcher Aidan Terronez (Illinois-Chicago). The LumberKings cashed in with a pair of singles and a sacrifice fly. Burlington's first run came in the second when Johnnie Ankenbruck (Huntington) recorded his first hit of the season, driving in Adam Kudronowicz (Iowa Western). In the third and fourth frames, Clinton totaled three runs on a single, sac fly, and a home run to stretch the lead to 6-1. The Bees answered in the fifth with three runs on two hits. Tanner Reinartz (Huntington) and Kudronowicz recorded RBIs in the inning before Troy Peltz (Iowa Western) scored on a wild pitch to cut the lead to two. Clinton would score four of the next five runs to go up 10-5 after the sixth inning. Burlington scored the final two runs of the game as Ankenbruck singled up the middle to plate Rowen Bergeron (LSU-Eunice). Bergeron went on to homer in the 9th to make the score 10-7 which would hold as the final tally. Missed opportunities costed the Bees once again as their struggles with runners on base continued, leaving nine runners on base between innings five and eight. Kade LaCoste (LSU-Eunice) highlighted the pitching staff, tossing 2 2/3 scoreless innings with three strikeouts out of relief. Burlington drops to Clinton for the first time this season. These teams are scheduled to meet tomorrow with the first pitch set for 2:00 pm at NelsonCorp Field
