Burlington Wins Pitchers Dual Over Alton

Burlington, IA – Runs were scored in just two innings, but the Bees were the team with the big inning, scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth which was enough to defeat the Alton River Dragons 3-1 at Community Field on June 19. Jace Figuereo (Quincy) delivered the big hit of the inning by doubling down the left field line to score PJ Hamel (McHenry County) and Matthew Simmons (Wabash Valley). That came after Hamel drove in Adam Kudronowicz (Iowa Western) following a leadoff double. Those three runs were all Burlington scored in the game. Starting pitcher Riley Fuller (Evangel) delivered his longest start of the season, going six innings allowing one run which came in the top of the fourth inning. Fuller's record improves to 1-1 on the season. Ty Mikkelsen (Iowa) tossed two scoreless innings out of relief, benefitting from a pair of double plays. Zach Troxel recorded his first save of the season, taking care of the River Dragons in 11 pitches. Landon Albers got the loss for Alton as the River Dragons dropped to 0-2 against the Bees this season. Burlington (9-11) improves to 5-3 at Community Field on the year. They hit the road for the next two days in Clinton to battle the LumberKings. First pitch tomorrow is set for 6:30 pm, before Sunday's 2:00 pm start time. The Bees return to Community Field next Tuesday for a 12:00 pm doubleheader against Quincy, opening a seven game home stand.
