Bees and Dans Split Doubleheader
Danville, IL – With both teams struggling to record wins, the Burlington Bees and Danville Dans
split a doubleheader inside of Danville Stadium on June 13.
The Dans had lost six of their last seven and the Bees came in losing five of their previous six.
Danville took game one 7-2 before Burlington responded with a 9-4 game two win.
Game 1:
A six run bottom of the second inning set the tone for Danville to go up 7-0. The only Burlington
runs in the game came from a two run double by Dalton Miller (Georgia Gwinnett).
The highlight of the first leg of the doubleheader was the Bees bullpen tossing 4 1/3 scoreless
innings. Ty Mikkelsen (Iowa) threw 3 1/3 frames allowing just two hits while striking out three.
Norm Cherrett (Randolph-Macon) retired the Dans in order in the sixth.
Game 2:
The Bees were the ones to jump out to an early lead as Tanner Reinartz (Huntington) and Kila
Teixeira (Hawaii Pacific) both picked up an RBI to put Burlington up 2-0.
The lead would grow to five following the top of the second, as Foti Rigopoulos (Illinois) drove
in Tate Slagle (Iowa) and Johnnie Ankenbruck (Huntington) on a single into right center field.
Reinartz would single home Matthew Simmons (Wabash Valley) for the third run of the inning.
The teams would go on to trade runs in the fourth, sixth, and seventh innings.
In the fourth, Lucas Krebs (Illinois) scored an unearned run after reaching on an error. Danville
would also plate an unearned run on a wild pitch in the bottom half of the inning.
Then, in the sixth, Teixeira scored on an RBI groundout from Miller before the Dans got one
back on an RBI single.
Finally, in the seventh, the Bees took advantage of three walks and a hit by pitch to score two
runs in the inning. Simmons scored on a Reinartz sacrifice fly and Miller singled in Rigopoulos.
Miller recorded four RBIs in the doubleheader to bring his total to seven on the season. He has
driven in a runner in all four of his starts.
TJ Hauser (UW-Milwaukee) gave Burlington a tremendous start on the mound, going 5 1/3
innings allowing two unearned runs with five strikeouts.
