Quick Start Leads Hoots to Win in Burlington
Burlington, IA – Seven runs to begin the game, including a run in each of the first five innings
was enough for the O'Fallon Hoots to defeat the Burlington Bees 8-5 at Community Field on
June 5.
O'Fallon scored two runs in each of the first two innings off Bees starting pitcher TJ Hauser
(UW-Milwaukee). They tacked on with one in the third, fourth, and fifth frames to make the
score 7-0 after the top of the fifth.
Burlington would get back in the game after a four run bottom of the seventh, as the Hoots
bullpen surrendered five walks and two hit by pitches. The Bees would add one more in the
eighth to cut the deficit to two before leaving a pair of runners on base to end the inning.
The Hoots would add one more run in the ninth to extend the lead to 8-5.
O'Fallon starting pitcher Drew Politte recorded the win while tossing six shutout innings. The
Hoots had to use three relievers in the seventh inning before Jack Werkowitch recorded a six
out save.
Four Bees pitchers combined to pitch seven innings out of the bullpen, allowing four runs.
O'Fallon (4-5) is back in the winning column after dropping a decision against Normal on
Thursday. Burlington (4-6) drops their second straight game after two wins over Clinton earlier
this week. The Hoots and Bees will meet again tomorrow, with first pitch set for 6:30 pm at
Community Field.
