Burlington Beats Quincy in Seven, Eight Straight Home Wins

Burlington, IA - The Burlington Bees (30-21, 18-7) scored 11-runs for the third straight game, taking down the Quincy Doggy Paddlers (15-36, 6-22) July 27 at Community Field. The team has won five straight games and eight consecutive games at the Hive. 


It is the first time the team has reached 30 wins since joining the Prospect League in 2021. 

 

The offense scored six runs in the first inning, with four extra-base hits. 

 

Caleb Klein (SCC) doubled to kick off the bottom of the first. Marcus Beatty (SCC) also hit for two bases, making it 1-0. It was his fourth double of the year and 10th RBI. 

 

Cole Yearsley (Winthrop) singled to put two on. He has a .434 average on the season.

 

Keanu Spenser (Hawaii-Pacific) doubled to score two more. He finished the game with 30 hits. 

 

Owen Nowak (McHenry) followed with an RBI single. He has 26 RBI in 18 games with the team.

 

Caleb Seibers (Olney Central) completed the rally with his tenth homer of the season. He is second in the league in home runs. 

 

After a shutout second, Quincy scored once in the third. The Paddlers left two on-base in every inning outside of the first and second. 

 

Kaelen Clarkson (Plattsburgh State) got the start and earned his third straight victory. Despite allowing eight hits, he only surrendered one run. The lefty struck out five. 

 

The Bees' bats woke up in the fifth. Spenser began the inning with a single. He had a three-hit effort. 

 

Kooper Schulte (Iowa) singled. Schulte also had three-hits, which was his second straight game with a triplet of hits. 

 

Burlington added one more in the inning as Spenser scored on a wild pitch. 

 

Following a scoreless top of the 6th, the Bees erupted for four runs along with four hits. A single from Schulte and a double by Seibers provided the offense.  Seibers leads the league in RBI with 47 and Schulte leads the league in hits with 60.

 

Sean O'Dowd (St. Charles CC) tossed a scoreless 7th while striking out two batters. 

 

Quincy travels to Clinton (32-17, 14-10) for a doubleheader on Tuesday at 5:00 pm. 

 

Burlington remains home to take on Johnstown (26-24, 9-15) tomorrow night at 6:30 pm.
