Bees Rattle Off 11 Unanswered to Defeat Clinton

Clinton, IA - The Burlington Bees (28-21, 16-7) scored 11 unanswered runs between the sixth and eighth inning of a 11-5 victory over the Clinton LumberKings (32-16, 14-9) at NelsonCorp Field July 26. 

 

Burlington went with a bullpen game, giving Morgan Jennings (Hawaii-Pacific) his first start of the season. He tossed three scoreless, striking out one.

 

JC Dermody received the start for Clinton, he began the game with five scoreless. 

 

Clinton scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to get on the board. 

 

Jack Duncan (Western Illinois) took over in the fifth. He tossed a scoreless frame, and went on for three shutout innings. He received the win. 

 

Burlington strung together two-runs to tie it in the sixth. Marcus Beatty (SCC), Cole Yearsley (Winthrop) and Keanu Spenser (Hawaii-Pacific) all singled.

 

 With two outs, Owen Nowak (McHenry) was hit by a pitch to put the team on the board. Caleb Seibers (Olney Central) was also struck to leave it 2-2. 

 

The Bees manufactured one of their biggest rallies of the year in the seventh. Jake Miller (SCC) walked to start the frame. 

 

Caleb Klein (SCC) followed by reaching on an error. Beatty walked to load the bases. 

 

Yearsley drove a ball to right that resulted in a sacrifice fly to give Burlington the lead. 

 

Spenser was hit by a pitch to load the bases. 

 

Schulte worked a walk to make it 4-2. It was his 42nd RBI of the year. 

 

After a pitching change, a wild pitch allowed another to score while Nowak was at the plate.

 

The lefty did not back down, hitting a triple to clear the bases and make it 7-2. 


Seibers added on one more with a sacrifice fly to complete the rally.  

 

The Bees plated two more in the eighth inning. Miller started the inning on a single. He moved to second on an error from the pitcher. 

 

Klein singled to put runners on the corner. After he broke for second, Miller came across to score. Yearsley singled to move Klein to third.

Spenser hit into a sacrifice fly to put the team in the double-digits. 

 

Klein also had an RBI single in the ninth to make it 11-2. Clinton added three in the bottom of the ninth but Burlington hung on for the win.

 

Jackson Horras got the loss for Clinton.


The teams rematch July 26 at NelsonCorp Field at 6:30 p.m.
