Burlington Wins In Eight Innings on Walk-Off Grand Slam

Burlington, IA - The Burlington Bees (25-20, 13-6) needed five hits to produce a 15-4 win over the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes (12-31, 4-13)

 

Caleb Klein (SCC) smashed a grand-slam in the eighth inning to enact the run-rule and end the game. It was his second four RBI strike against Springfield this season. 

 

Kaelen Clarkson (Plattsburgh State) got the start and worked for his second win of the season. The lefty tossed five innings, allowing two earned runs and four hits. 

 

Springfield jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the first inning. The Bees scored runs in five consecutive innings to take over the game. The team worked 15 walks and were hit by six pitches. 

 

In the second, Kooper Schulte (Iowa) doubled with one out for the team's first hit. He moved to third on a wild pitch.

 

Caleb Seibers (Olney Central) walked and stole second. On the play, Schulte scored.

 

Seibers went to third on a wild pitch, and after a Marcus Beatty (SCC) walk produced another wild pitch, he scored. 

 

The Bees scored four runs on no hits in the third. Jeremy Figueroa (Mount Mercy) and Corey Boyette (Lipscomb) started the rally on walks. They both advanced on a throwing error. 

 

Keanu Spenser (Hawaii-Pacific) hit a sacrifice fly to plate one. He finished with 3 RBI. 

 

After a pitching change, Owen Nowak (McHenry) was hit by a pitch to load the bases. 

 

Seibers also got hit for an RBI. Rollins scored another on a walk and a balk brought Nowak home.

 

The team manufactured three more runs in the fourth, all with two outs. Spenser began the effort on a solo homer for his sixth of the year. 

 

Schulte and Nowak followed with singles. Schulte finished 2 for 3. 

 

Seibers was hit again to load the bases. Rollins walked to plate another, he had a 3 RBI game with no hits.

 

Nowak scored on a wild pitch. The score was 9-1 after four. Springfield got one on the scoreboard in fifth and sixth. 

 

Klein walked to start off the fifth and stole second. He moved to third on a groundout. 

 


Spenser flew out to score him. 

 

Nowak and Seibers started the sixth on walks. Both went up a base on a wild pitch. 

 

Rollins hit one in on a sacrifice fly. 

 

After three walks in the eight, Klein ended the game on the grand slam. 

 

Burlington has scored double-digits in four straight games. They end the week at the top of the Northwest Division.
