27-Run Day Cements 9-Run Comeback for Burlington Win

Burlington, IA - Where do you even start? The Burlington Bees (24-20, 12-6) won a wild-one, beating the Quincy Doggy Paddlers (14-28, 5-14) 27-17 at Community Field July 18.

 

The game ended after eight innings due to the run-rule. 

 

The Bees generated 27 runs on 18 hits, working 12 walks and hitting for 26 RBI. Quincy scored 17 times on 15 hits. It had 16 RBI and walked eight times.


The Paddlers came out of the gate on fire scoring the first seven runs of the game. The score was 9-1 after 2.5 and 9-3 going into the bottom of the fourth.


Burlington scored seven in the fourth and eight in the fifth. The scoreboard read 18-12 after five frames.

 

Quincy fired off five in the top of the seventh to pull within one. 

 

The Bees answered with aggression. They generated four runs in the seventh and five in the eighth to end the game. It was a season-high in runs and hits for the team.

 

Every starter for Burlington had at least one run and eight had at least an RBI. 

 

Cole Yearsley (Winthrop) went 2-6 with 5 RBI out of the three-spot in the order. He had a two-out, two RBI single to make it 9-3 in the third. 

 

Jeremy Figueroa (Mount Mercy) finished 1 for 3. He had four RBI, four walks and three runs. The righty had a three-run homer for his second of the season. 

 

Caleb Klein (SCC) also had 4 RBI in a 3 for 4 effort. He scored three times and came up with a two-out single in the fourth. It scored two runs to continue a big frame. 

 

Marcus Beatty (SCC) had his best game of the year, going 4 for 5 with four runs and RBI. He walked once, while having a double and single in the fourth. 

 

Kila Texeira (Hawaii-Pacific) had 3 RBI in a 2-5 game. Colin Schmitke (SCC) had recorded 3 RBI with two hits and walks.

 

Kooper Schulte (Iowa) had a homer in a 2-5, 3RBI effort. He is now tied for league-lead in RBI and second in extra-base hits. 

 

Lincoln Cardwell (Parkland) was hit by four pitches. 

 

Morgan Jennings (Hawaii-Pacific) got the win and tossed two scoreless innings. He left the bases-loaded in the sixth. 


Zach Leuschen (Mount Marty) received the save in a shutout 1.1 innings of work. He struck out one. 

 

Burlington's win-streak is extended to four. Quincy's losing streak is 10

 

Both teams will put this one behind them tomorrow. Quincy returns home to face off against the Alton River Dragons (21-23, 10-8). The game starts at 6:30 p.m.

 

The Bees continue their home-stand with a matchup against the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes (12-30, 4-12). First pitch is at 6:30 p.m.
