Gaskey Goes Six Scoreless in Rockers Win
Burlington, IA - The Burlington Bees (23-20,11-6), dressed at the Riverboat Rockers for Stingers & Sails Night, began a three-game home stand with a 10-2 victory over the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes (11-30, 3-12).
The Bees have scored seven or more runs in eight of their last nine.
Blake Gaskey (Ohio) got the start and threw six shutout innings. He gave up six hits and struck out five while getting his second win of the year.
The offense was kicked by Corey Boyette (Lipscomb) in the first inning. The lefty blasted a ball over the fence for his seventh homer of the season. It made the score 2-0.
The team scored runs in eight of the nine innings.
The second saw one run.
Colin Schmitke (SCC) was hit by a pitch and Cole Yearsley (Winthrop) singled.
Caleb Klein (SCC) singled to score one.
In the third, Burlington had its biggest inning, scoring three times.
Keanu Spenser (Hawaii-Pacific) began the effort on a walk. Kooper Schulte (Iowa) reached on an error and Caleb Seibers (Olney Central) singled.
A wild pitch plated one. Danny Rollins (Murray State) came up with a walk.
Noah Company (Eureka) walked to score another and Cole Yearsley (Winthrop) hit a sacrifice fly. He finished 1 for 2 with an RBI.
After a shutout fourth, Burlington scored one in every inning.
With two outs in the fifth, Schmitke walked and Yearsley was hit by a pitch. Klein singled for his second RBI of the day.
In the sixth, Spenser worked his second walk and Schulte smashed a double for his 16th extra-base hit of the year.
Company flew out to center for his second RBI of the year.
Klein led off the seventh with a single. After advancing on a groundout and wild pitch, Schulte batted him in for his 38th RBI of the year.
With two outs in the eighth, the team scored on no-hits. It began with a Yearsley walk. Klein was hit by a pitch and Boyette also walked. One scored on a wild pitch.
The Horseshoes scored one in the seventh and eighth.
The Bullpen shut the door. Jack Duncan (Western Illinois) threw two innings, allowing one earned run.
Braeden Sunken (Maryville) threw a shutout in the ninth.
Springfield returns home to face the Normal Cornbelters (17-24, 5-10)
Burlington takes on the Quincy Doggy Paddlers (14-27, 5-13) at 6:30 p.m.
