Seibers 8 RBI Game helps Burlington Score 18

Normal, IL - You could not draw up a better start. The Burlington Bees (22-20,10-6) scored 12 in the first inning to jump ahead of the Normal CornBelters (16-24, 4-10)

 

The team would go on to win 18-3 in seven innings. The game was ended due to the Ten Run Rule. 

 

The first inning matches a Prospect League record for runs in one inning. Burlington also matched it July 9 in Alton. 

 

Caleb Seibers (Olney Central) led the offensive outburst both in the opening frame and in the game. The righty had a grand slam and triple in the first; he finished with 8 RBI.

 

Cole Yearsley (Winthrop) walked, Jeremy Figueroa (Mount Mercy) singled and Corey Boyette (Lipscomb) was hit by a pitch to load the bases in the first three plate appearances of the game. 

 

Owen Nowak (McHenry) worked a walk to score the first run. The McHenry product has 18 RBI in 13 games.

 

Kooper Schulte (Iowa) was hit to score another and keep the bases loaded.

 

Seibers came up and smashed his seventh homer of the season. It was his team-leading seventh long bomb of the year. 

 

The bottom of the order kept it coming with nobody out. Kila Texeira (Hawaii-Pacific) doubled and Lincoln Cardwell (Parkland) singled. Normal followed with a pitching change.

 

Caleb Klein (SCC) worked a walk to get the Bees through the order in the frame and load the bases.

 

Yearsley was hit by a pitch and Figueroa walked to plate two more. 

 

Normal followed with two outs to bring up Schulte and Seibers.

 

Schulte singled to score two, while Seibers kept it rolling with an RBI triple. The CornBelters made one more pitching change before getting out of the inning trailing by 12.

 

Cardwell started the second off with a double. Klein and Yearsley both walked to fill the bases.


Figueroa grounded into a double play that scored one. 

 

The Bees tacked on one more in the fifth, beginning on a Schulte triple. Seibers grounded into an error at short that scored the Hawkeye. It is his fifth triple of the year. 

 

Normal scored one in the second and two in the sixth. 

 

The 7th inning saw more magic from Schulte and Seibers. 

 

The inning began on a Figueroa walk and Boyette single. Boyette has 31 hits on the season.

 

After a groundout moved the runners over, Schulte came up with a single to score Figueroa. Schulte finished 3 for 3 with four runs and RBI.

 

Seibers came up with his second triple of the game to clear the bases. He has 13 extra base hits on the year. 

 

Cardwell singled to score the 18th run of the game. He has two RBI in four games. 

 

Alex Logan (John Wood CC) threw five innings, letting up three earned. 

 

Michael Schaul (Mount Mercy) tossed two innings and struck out two to finish it out. It was his first appearance of the year.

 

Burlington returns home July 17 to take on the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes (11-29, 3-11). The game begins at 6:30 p.m.
