Burlington Drops Twin-Bill

Peru, IL - The Burlington Bees (20-20, 8-6) dropped both legs of a doubleheader to the Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp (20-20,9-6) at Schweickert Stadium July 14. 

 

The final scores were 6-2 and 11-7.

 

Game 1

 

The game began with a duel between the starters. Burlington's hurler, Jackson Rodgers (Western Illinois), threw three shutout frames to start the day off.

 

The score was 0-0 through three, before the Shrimp scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth.

 

Burlington scored twice in the top of the fifth, beginning with Caleb Klein (SCC) and Jeremy Figueroa (Mount Mercy) being hit by pitches. 

 

Cole Yearsley (Winthrop) drove a single past the shortstop to plate the pair. 

 

Illinois Valley answered with two runs in the fifth to make it 6-2. The team held on for the win.

 

Tucker Ladeburg (Wartburg State) made his 2025 debut, tossing a scoreless sixth.

 

Game 2:

 

The Shrimp wasted no-time, leading 8-0 going into the third.

 

The Bees scored four in the third to cut it in half. 

 

Jace Figuereo (SCC) began the frame with an infield single. With the top of the order up, Klein was hit by a pitch.

 

Figueroa singled to score one. He finished the game with three hits. 

 

Corey Boyette (Lipscomb) also had a one-base knock to load the bases.

 

Kooper Schulte (Iowa) reached on a fielder's choice to make it 8-2. He is top six in the Prospect League in RBI.

 

Yearsley found outfield grass on a single to score Figueroa. He has 13 RBI in 19 games. He would go on to steal second and force an error that plated Schulte. 

 

The Pistol Shrimp manufactured three runs in the bottom of the fourth to make it 11-4. 

 

Burlington scored two in the fight beginning on a Schulte walk and a Yearsley single.

 

Kila Texieira (Hawaii-Pacific) singled to bring one home. His college teammate, Keanu Spenser (Hawaii-Pacific) reached on a fielder's choice to score another.


The offense created another run in the sixth.

 

Figueroa led off the inning with a double. Boyette came up next and brought him home with a single. 

 

Marshall Robinson (Faulkner) and Zach Leuschen (Mt.Marty) combined for a shutout 2.2 innings out of middle relief.

 

Burlington begins next week with two contests against the Normal Cornbelters (16-22, 4-8)  on the road.
