Burlington Outlasts Clinton for Fifth Straight Win
Burlington, IA - Home Sweet Home! The Burlington Bees (20-18, 8-4) took down the Clinton Lumberkings (27-11, 9-3) 8-5 July 12 at Community Field.
The team's winning streak is extended to five. Clinton's winning streak is snapped at six.
Kaelen Clarkson (Plattsburgh State) shined in his sixth start. The Prospect League All-Star threw six scoreless for the victory, while striking out seven.
Clarkson stranded the bases loaded in the sixth to end his outing.
The game was scoreless through two. Clarkson left two on in the top of third and gave the Bees momentum going into the bottom of the frame.
With two outs in the third, Burlington manufactured a six-run, five-hit rally.
Jeremy Figueroa (Mt.Mercy) singled and stole second. Bees finished with five stolen bases.
Corey Boyette (Lipscomb) walked out of an 0-2 count.
Kooper Schulte (Iowa) singled in the shortstop to get the team on the board. It was his 30th RBI of the season.
Owen Nowak (McHenry) also pulled off an RBI single.
Marcus Beatty singled for his first RBI. Danny Rollins (Murray State) reached on an error which scored a run.
Kila Texeira (Hawaii-Pacific) completed the rally with a 2 RBI single to make it 6-0.
After a 1-2-3 top of the fourth, Burlington tacked on two more.
With two outs, Boyette worked another walk. Schulte singled to bring home another. He is now 7th in the league in RBI.
Nowak followed with another RBI single. He has 16 RBI in 10 games.
Clinton would score two in the seventh and four in the eighth.
Shawn Scott (Austin Peay) entered in the eighth with the tying-run on deck. He registered a strikeout with the bases loaded, before three more punch-outs in the ninth. It was his first save.
Ethan Dorka received the loss.
Clinton returns home to take on the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes (10-27, 2-9).
Burlington plays two big games in Peru, IL. The doubleheader against the Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp (17-20, 6-6) begins at 2:05 p.m July 13.
