Bees Use 12-Run Inning To Run-Rule Victory

Alton, IL – In a stunning turnaround, the Burlington Bees (17-18, 5-4) erupted for a Prospect League record 12 runs in the sixth inning to defeat the Alton River Dragons (15-20, 4-5) by a score of 15-2 in seven innings July 9 at Lloyd Hopkins Field. 

 

The game ended via the run-rule, with the Bees leading 13 after seven.

 

Burlington was held hitless through the first five innings before their offensive outburst. The team still led 3-0. 

 

Cole Yearsley (Winthrop) began the game with a walk. Caleb Seibers (Olney Central) was hit by a pitch to put two on. Both moved up a base on a passed ball.

 

Kooper Schulte (Iowa) grounded the ball to third, with the proceeding throw missing first. The error allowed two to score. 

 

The Bees would utilize another error to score one in the third. Owen Nowak (McHenry) walked to lead off the inning. With one out, he stole second and would move to third on a groundout. 

 

Yearsley reached on an error from short, allowing Nowak to score.


Alex Logan (John Wood CC) got the start and tossed five innings. He allowed no runs and three hits, receiving the win. 

 

After his 1-2-3 fifth, Burlington's offense woke up in a big way. The team would bring 17 up to bat, force two pitching changes and hit two homers. 

 

Danny Rollins (Murray State) began the inning with a double. Colin Schmitke (SCC) and Yearsley both reached to load the bases. 

 

Seibers picked up an infield single to score Rollins and maintain the bases loaded.

 

Corey Boyette (Lipscomb) walked to plate one to bring up Keanu Spenser (Hawaii-Pacific).

 

The big-righty hit a ball over the fence for a grand slam to make the score 9-0. It was his fourth homer of 2025.

 

Schulte walked to force a change of throwers. Nowak singled and Kila Teixiera (Hawaii-Pacific) walked to load the bases.


Rollins came up again and got his second hit of the inning, which scored another. Schmitke reached on a fielder's choice to bring home a run and Yearsley singled. 

 

Seibers capped off the inning with a three-run homer. The All-Star is tied second in the league in homers with six. 



Harrison Boushele received the loss.

 

Alton travels to Illinois Valley (16-19, 5-5) to face off with another Northwest Foe July 10 at 7:05 p.m.

 

The Bees continue their six-game road trip with a matchup against the Springfield Lucky Horsehoses (10-25, 2-7) at 6:30 p.m. at Robin Roberts Stadium July 10.
