Burlington Responds in Alton

Alton, IL – The Burlington Bees (16-18, 4-4) bounced back with a 9–4 win over the Alton River Dragons (15-19, 4-4) on June 6 at Lloyd Hopkins Field, following a loss the day before.

 

The team fired on all cylinders. The offense scored eight runs in the first three innings, while the pitching threw seven total scoreless innings. 

 

Burlington finished with 12 hits, while allowing eight. Every Bee reached base at least one time. 

 

The team scored four in the first frame. Caleb Klein (SCC) and Corey Boyette (Lipscomb) walked and singled with one out in the first to get runners aboard. 

 

Mason Schwalbach (Southern Illinois) hit into a sacrifice fly to score one. He is up to 20 RBI in 22 games.

 

After a Boyette stolen base and Kooper Schulte (Iowa) single, Owen Nowak (McHenry) announced his arrival to the Prospect League. The McHenry outfielder slugged a ball over the fence to make it 4-0. Nowak has eight  RBI in six games.

 

Danny Rollins (Murray State) singled to begin the second. Colin Schmitke (SCC) was hit by a pitch and Cole Yearsley (Winthrop) got a hit to load the bases.

 

Klein grounded into a double play that scored another. Boyette drove a single to give his team a six-run lead. It was his 25th RBI of the year.

 

Schulte led off the third with a hit by pitch. Nowak scored him on an RBI double. This was his second extra-base hit both of the game and season. 

 

Rollins and Schmitke both walked to load the bases. Yearsley found outfield grass on a single to make it an eight-run game.

 

The Bees gave up three in the fifth and one in the sixth, which were their only runs surrendered. 

 

Danny Harris (Mesa CC) got the start. He allowed seven hits and three earned runs over six innings. The righty moves to 3-1 on the season with the victory.


Kyle Smith (UHSP), Marshall Robinson (Faulkner) and Braeden Sunken (Maryville) each tossed a scoreless frame to hold the Alton offense.

 

Burlington tacked on another in the eighth. Caleb Seibers (Olney Central) walked and moved to second on a groundout. Yearsley got his second RBI of the day on a single. The lefty has 10 RBI on the season.

 

Bauer Dalke received the loss. 

 

Both teams begin the All-Star Break before playing again July 9. It will be in Alton and start at 6:35 p.m!
