Bees drop July 4th Contest, Look to Bounce Back in Alton
Clinton, IA - The Burlington Bees (15-17. 3-3) fell to the Clinton LumberKings (22-10, 4-3) 13-6 at NelsonCorp Field July 4.
The Bees led 5-1 going into the bottom of the fifth, where the team surrendered 12 runs.
Burlington kicked off the game with a four-run two out rally in the top of the first.
Corey Boyette (Lipscomb), Keanu Spenser (Hawaii-Pacific) and Kooper Schulte (Iowa) singled to begin the offensive burst.
Caleb Seibers (Olney Central) was hit by a pitch to score one. He now has 21 RBI's on the year.
Owen Nowak (McHenry) drove a single to plate two. He has 4 RBI's in as many games.
Kila Texieira (Hawaii-Pacific) brought home another with an RBI single. The Shark finished with three hits.
Burlington scored another on a Schulte walk with the bases loaded in the fourth. The Hawkeye has 26 RBI's in 27 games this season.
The Bees' other run came in the seventh on a Colin Schmitke (SCC) RBI Single. He has 14 hits in 13 games this season.
Kaimana Burgo (Hawaii-Pacific) received the loss.
Jack Duncan (Western Illinois) let up one run over 2.2 innings. Zach Lesuchen (Mt.Marty) tossed a shutout inning also.
The Bees travel to the Alton River Dragons (14-18,3-3) to begin a two-game set. The team looks to respond at 6:35 p.m. July 5.
