Bees Drop Home Contest to LumberKings
Burlington, IA - The Burlington Bees (14-16, 2-2) lost to the Clinton Lumberkings (21-9, 3-2) 15-4 at Community Field July 2.
Clinton jumped out for three runs in the first two frames. The Bees would not get on the board until the fifth inning.
The LumberKings starter Jaqson Tejada tossed five innings of two earned run ball. His team led 4-0 going into the bottom of the fifth.
Danny Rollins (Murray State) started the inning on a walk. Jace Figuereo (SCC) followed with a single.
Colin Schmitke (SCC) registered his seventh RBI in 11 games on a single.
Burlington's biggest spot of offense came in the sixth, which began on a Keanu Spenser (Hawaii-Pacific) double.
Mason Schwalbach (Southern Illinois) struck a single next. He had two hits for his fourth-straight multi-hit game.
After a pitching change, Kooper Schulte (Iowa) singled to score Spenser. He is tied for the team-lead in RBI's with 23.
Caleb Seibers (Olney Central) bunted to score another. It pulled the Bees within two.
Clinton tallied three in the seventh, one in the eighth and six in the ninth to take a commanding lead.
Owen Nowak (McHenry) picked up his first home RBI in the eighth to tag on another run.
Kaelen Clarkson (Plattsburgh State) got the loss. He allowed three earned runs in four innings.
Tejada got the start.
The teams faceoff again tomorrow at 6:30 p.m at Community Field. The game will have postgame fireworks!
