Burlington Drops Game in Quincy

Quincy, IL - The Burlington Bees (14-15, 2-1) dropped their first game of the second half, losing to the Quincy Doggy Paddlers (11-15, 2-1) 18-8 at QU Stadium.

 

The game ended in the eighth inning via run rule.

 

Quincy scored 10 runs in the bottom of the first to take command of the game.

 

Burlington rallied back for three in the top of the second. Mason Schwalbach (Southern Illinois) started the inning on a walk. 

 

Kooper Schulte (Iowa) reached on an error. 

 

Owen Novak (McHenry) grounded out to score a run. It was an RBI in the first at-bat of the year.

 

Caleb Seibers (Oley Central) doubled to score Schulte.

 

Colin Schmitke (SCC) singled to score Seibers.


The Doggy Paddlers tallied two in the third inning. The Bees answered with three in the fourth and one in the fifth and sixth.

 

With two outs in the fourth, Seibers singled. Dylan Shepherd (Ohio) also hit for a single. 

 

Schmitke picked up an RBI on another single.  Cole Yearsley (Winthrop) got an RBI of his own on a one-base knock. 

 

Caleb Klein (SCC) walked to load the bases. Schmitke scored on a wild pitch. 

 

Schwalbach began the fifth on a single. He moved to second on a wild pitch.

 

Nowak got a hit to put runners on the corner. 

 

Seibers scored Schwalbach for another RBI. 

 

In the sixth, Yearsley walked and stole second to start the frame. Schwalbach brought him home with an RBI single.

 

He finished 3 for 4 for his third straight three-hit game.

 

Burlington utilized seven pitchers. Alex Logan (John Wood CC) received the loss. Hayden Steelman got the win. 

 

Quincy travels to Peru to face off against the Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp (12-16, 1-2). Burlington returns home to take on the Clinton Lumberkings (20-9, 2-2). The game starts at 6:30 p.m.
