Burlington Defeats Clinton At Home

Burlington, IA – The Burlington Bees (15-14, 2-0) earned their first home win over their interstate rival, defeating the Clinton LumberKings (19-9, 1-2) by a score of 6-2.

 

Reese Ellison (Bethel) earned his first victory in his best start of the season. The lefty tossed six innings of two-run ball. He struck out four. 

 

After two innings of shutout ball, the Bees strung together a two-out rally. 

 

Jace Figuereo (SCC) singled to begin the stretch. Caleb Klein (SCC) was hit by a pitch to put two on.


Corey Boyette (Lipscomb) smashed a homer over the right field fence for his sixth of the year. He has hit every one in the last 15 days. 

 

Ellison tossed a 1-2-3 fourth and Burlington kept its foot on the gas.

 

Danny Rollins (Murray State) and Colin Schmitke (SCC) began the bottom of the inning with singles.

 

Figuereo followed by reaching on a hitter's choice, with a throwing error scoring Rollins. 

 

Klein singled to plate another and force a pitching change. 

 

Clinton tallied one in the fifth and sixth to make it 5-2.

 

The Bees scored once more in the eighth. Rollins led off the frame with a hit by pitch. He moved to second on a hit by pitch. 

 

Figuereo reached on a bunt single to put runners on first and third. He finished four for five. 

 

Klein singled for his second RBI with two outs. 

 

Burlington's bullpen put up three innings of shutout ball. 

 

Morgan Jennings (Hawaii-Pacific) tossed 1.1 innings. He struck out two while allowing a hit and walk.

 

Zane Frese (Winthrop) got two outs in the eighth while stranding the bases loaded. 

 

Braeden Sunken (Maryville) tossed the final inning. He surrendered one hit and a walk.

 

Ethan Dorka got the loss. 

Both teams have the off day tomorrow.
