Bees Drop Pitcher’s Duel
Burlington, IA - Jackson Rodgers (Western Illinois) had the start of the year for the Burlington Bees (13-14), tossing seven full innings while allowing two.
The Quincy Doggy Paddlers (9-13) rallied late to defeat the Bees 6-4 June 27 at Community Field.
The game was the final of the first half of the 2025 Prospect League.
Quincy's starter, Cayman Hutsman, also threw seven. He allowed three earned runs.
Rodgers finished with five strikeouts over the game, leaving two on base in the seventh.
As for the team's offense, the Bees jumped out in the first inning.
Cole Yearley (Winthrop) led off the game with a walk. With one out, Corey Boyette (Lipscomb) singled.
Miles Risley (Iowa) doubled to plate Yearsley. It was his sixth double and 10th RBI of the year.
The Doggy Paddlers scored one in the second to tie it.
The top of the order produced another run in the third. Yearsley and Boyette both singled to give the Bees the lead.
Dylan Shepherd (Ohio) singled to begin the fourth. Colin Schmitke (SCC) moved him to second on an error.
Noah Company (Eureka) laid down a bunt to move the pair over. Ethan McDonald (Eureka) hit into a sacrifice fly to make it 3-1.
The Bees scored again in the sixth, beginning on a Keanu Spenser (Hawaii-Pacific) hit by pitch.
He moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. Shepherd flew out to move him to third and Schmitke found contact to score him on a sacrifice fly.
Rodgers left the game with the score 4-2. It completed the longest outing of the season for any Burlington starter.
Quincy scored one in the eighth and three in the ninth to complete the comeback victory.
Erick McKendry (Allan Hancock College) got the loss. Nathan Murphy received the win.
Quincy returns home to play a double header against the Clinton Lumberkings (18-7). The Bees start the second half with their third straight at home, taking on the Normal Cornbelters (12-14).
