Bees and Pistol Shrimp Split Double Header. Seibers hits two home runs
Burlington, IA - The Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp (11-11) and Burlington Bees (11-13) split a double header at Community Field June 22.
Both games were seven-inning contests. It was Burlington's second straight double-header. .
The game one final was a 7-4 Bees Victory. The Shrimp answered with a 9-6 win in game two.
GAME ONE:
Both teams got on the board in the first. Illinois Valley's D'Andre Gaines hit a leadoff homer.
With one out, Caleb Klein (SCC) singled. Corey Boyette (Lipscomb) did the same to move Klein to third.
Mason Schwalbach (Southern Illinois) came up with an RBI single to score Klein.
The Bees kept their foot on the gas in the second frame.
The top of the order came up with two outs. Jace Figuereo (SCC) and Klein both singled.
Boyette went for extra bases, scoring two on a double. The lefty has 17 RBI on the year.
Schwalbach found outfield grass on an RBI single to complete a three run frame.
With an Illinois Valley pitching change, Burlington kept the offensive momentum going.
After a Dylan Shepherd (Ohio) walk, Caleb Seibers (Olney Central) drove a ball over the fence for his first homerun of the year.
The Pistol Shrimp scored a run in the fourth, fifth and sixth to chip away. The Bees answered with one in the fifth.
Ryan Skwarek (McHenry) tripled on a ball off the wall in left field. Figuereo brought him home on a sacrifice fly.
Braeden Sunken (Maryville) tossed a shutout seventh to get his third save of the season. He is tied second in the league in saves.
Alex Logan (John Wood CC) got the start and win. He threw four innings, surrendering two earned runs with three strikeouts.
Ben Fawcett got the loss.
The Bees committed one error in the victory. The win snapped a five game Illinois Valley winning streak.
GAME TWO:
The game began a pitcher's duel, with it being 0-0 going into the third.
A sacrifice fly got the Shrimp on the board on the third.
Klein doubled with two outs in the third. Miles Risley (Iowa) doubled to score him. The Hawkeye has hits in six straight.
Burlington took the lead in the fourth.
Kooper Schulte (Iowa) started the frame on a single. Colin Schmitke (SCC) doubled to put a pair on scoring position.
Seibers scored one on a sacrifice fly.
Illinois Valley answered with three in the fifth. Burlington did not back down.
Klein walked and Risley doubled to open the inning. Keanu Spenser (Hawaii-Pacific) reached on an infield single to bring Klein home.
Schmitke scored another on a fielder's choice. Seibers hit his second of the day with a two-run homer to take a 6-4 lead.
The Shrimp tallied five runs in the next two innings for the victory.
Reese Wissinger (Southeastern) got the start. He allowed eight hits and four runs with five strikeouts.
Zach Leuschen (Mt.Marty) got the loss.
Jared Rodriguez earned the victory. Caleb Okada registered the save.
The two teams meet again for a double header in Peru on June 24.
