Burlington Hits Way Out of Losing Streak

Burlington, IA - The Burlington Bees (10-10) tallied a season-high 17 hits in a 10-5 win over the Quincy Doggy Paddlers (8-9) June 19 at Community Field.

 

The victory snapped the teams four game losing streak. 

 

Trailing 2-1 going into the bottom of the third, Corey Boyette (Lipscomb) came up in a big way. The lefty blasted a three run home run to take the lead. It was his third homer in five games, as the team never looked back. 

 

Quincy opened the game with runs in the first and third. The Bees got on the board in the bottom of the third. 

 

Boyette and Mason Schwalbach (Southern Illinois) led off with singles. Kooper Schulte (Iowa) brought home Boyette on a double-play. 

 

After the three-run homer, the Paddlers pulled within one in the top of the fifth. After a 1-2-3 top of the sixth, Burlington answered with three runs in the sixth inning. 

 

Jace Figuereo (SCC) and Miles Risley (Iowa) both singled to kick off the inning. Boyette grounded out to move the runners over. He finished 3-4 with two runs and four RBI's. 

 

With the infield in, Schwalbach hit a sharp ball over the first baseman's head. He turned it into a double, with two scoring. 

 

Schulte followed with his fourth triple of the year to bring home Schwalbach. It brought his RBI total to 19 on the year. 

 

Burlington scored two more in the seventh and once more in the eighth.

Ryan Skwarek (McHenry) singled and moved to second on an error. Ethan McDonald (Eureka) reached on a fielder's choice to put runners on the corner. 


Risley singled to score one. His final line was 4-5 with two runs and an RBI. 

 

Boyette flew into a sacrifice fly to score the inning's other run. 

 

With one out in the eight, Keanu Spenser (Hawaii-Pacific) reached first and advanced to second on an error. 

 

He moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a balk.

 

Every Burlington starter finished with a hit. The team utilized four pitchers.


Jackson Rodgers (Western Illinois) got the start and the win. He allowed five hits, three earned runs with four strikeouts. 

 

Mitchell Cox (Crown College) followed with two innings. He allowed one earned run.

 

Zane Frese (Winthrop) tossed the eighth, giving up an earned run. Parker Lewin (Minnesota) tossed the final frame, allowing a hit and no runs. 

 

Quincy returns to action tomorrow, taking on the O'Fallon Hoots (9-9) at home. First pitch is 6:30. 

 

The Bees travel to Clinton June 19, facing off in game one of a two game set against the Lumberkings (13-6). First pitch at Nelsoncorp Field is 6:30 p.m.
