Burlington Swept In Double Header to Clinton

Burlington, IA - The Burlington Bees (9-8)  lost both games of a seven-inning double header against the Clinton Lumberkings (12-5) June 14 at Community Field. 

 

The first game was a makeup from a June 13 Postponment. 

 

Game one was a 3-2 final score in eight innings and Game two finished 11-6. 

 

GAME ONE

 

Runs were few and far between in the first game. Clinton jumped out to run in the first and third, with Jalen Martinez providing an RBI single and solo homerun.

 

Alex Logan (John Wood CC) had his best start of the year. The Drury commit tossed four innings of one earned run baseball. He allowed three hits while striking out five.

 

After two base runners through the first four frames, the Bees crawled back into the game in the fifth inning. 

 

Kila Teixeira (Hawaii-Pacific) singled with two outs. Ryan Skwarek (McHenry) walked and Caleb Seibers (Olney Central) had an infield single to load the bases. 

 

A wild pitch scored Teixeira and brought Burlington within one.

 

Corey Boyette (Lipscomb) led off the bottom of the sixth with his first home run of the year. This clutch homer forced extras. 

 

Raul Gil (Highland) tossed two shutout innings in relief with a strikeout. 

 

Clinton tallied a run in the top of the eighth. Burlington had runners on first and third from a Boyette walk and fielder's choice, but could not close the door.

Braeden Sunken (Maryville) gave up no earned runs in the final two innings. 

 

GAME TWO

 

The Lumberkings scored in the top of the second to take a 1-0 lead. 

 

Burlington's offense had a big bottom of the inning to score four times.

 

Caleb Klein (SCC) reached on a throwing error to start the frame and Dylan Shepherd (Ohio) singled to get on. 


Caleb Seibers (Olney Central) bunted to move the two over. 

 

Kooper Schulte (Iowa) picked up two RBI on a triple. Jace Figuereo (SCC) singled in the infield to score him.

 

Boyette walked to bring up Cole Yearsley (Winthrop), who singled to score another. 

 

Clinton responded with three runs in the third and six runs in the fourth. 

 

With the score 10-4, Burlington's offense found its footing in the fifth. 

 

Shepherd was hit by a pitch to start the inning. Seibers singled to put runners on the corners. 

 

Schulte, Dash Denton (Rock Valley) and Figuereo all walked to score two runs. 

 

The Lumberkings scored one more time to complete the sweep.

 

Zane Frese (Winthrop) got the loss.

 

 Skwarek threw two innings of one-hit ball in his first pitching appearance of the season. 


Shawn Scott (Austin Peay) struck out five in two innings. He let up no earned runs, while stranding the bases loaded in the seventh. 



Clinton travels home to take on the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes (5-9) tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. The Bees travel to QU Stadium to face off with the Doggy Paddlers (7-8) June 14 at 5:00 p.m
