Burlington Offense Explodes in Win Over Springfield
Burlington, IA - With 11 total runs scored in their last three home games, the Burlington Bees' (8-6) bats showed up big time in an 11-8 victory over the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes (5-7) June 11 at Community Field.
The team generated 13 hits, 11 walks, and 10 RBI in one of the best performances with the bats all year.
The top two players in the order for Burlington led the way. Jace Figuereo (SCC) hit leadoff, going 2-3 with three runs, a hit by pitch and two walks. Miles Risley (Iowa) followed him in the order, putting up three hits and four RBI.
Springfield jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, with the Bees answering with five unanswered runs.
Figuereo walked to start the third inning and went to third on a throwing error. Risley followed with an RBI single.
The Bees got hot with eight runs over the next two innings.
Ryan Skwarek (McHenry) walked and stole second to start the rally. Kila Teixeira (Hawaii-Pacific) singled to put a pair on.
Nolan Grawe (SDSU) struck an RBI single to give Burlington its first lead.
Figuereo was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Risley picked up two more RBI on a single.
Kooper Schulte (Iowa) flew out on a sacrifice fly to tack on one more.
The Lucky Horseshoes answered with four runs in the top of the fifth and the Bees did not back down.
Teixeira singled to start the bottom of the fifth and Grawe worked a walk. Figuereo singled to load the bases again.
Risley reached on a fielder's choice that resulted in no outs.. He picked up another RBI on the play.
A wild pitch allowed Figuereo to score and Schulte brought home another on an infield single. It was the Hawkeye's 15th RBI of the season.
The scoreboard read 9-6 going into the stretch. Teixeira had an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to score Cole Yearsley (Winthrop). Teixieira finished 3-5 with two runs and a RBI.
Mason Schwalbach made it 11-6 in the eighth with an RBI single. It was his first Burlington RBI since the 2023 season.
Every Bee starter reached and eight had hits.
Springfield scored twice in the top of the ninth and brought the tying run up, but the Bees held on for their second win in their last three.
Reese Ellison (Bethel) received the start, tossing 4.1 innings with three earned runs.
Marshall Robinson (Faulkner) got the victory in 0.2 innings of relief. Mitchell Cox (Crown College) got the save with the final two outs
Anthony Buonaura got the loss.
Springfield plays Rex Baseball (6-7) in a double header at home tomorrow. Burlington travels to face off against the Quincy Doggy Paddlers (6-7) at 6:30 p.m June 11.
