Burlington out-hit in loss to Quincy
Burlington, IA - The Burlington Bees (7-5) gave up five in the second and four in the ninth in a 10-7 loss to the Quincy Doggy Paddlers (5-7) June 10 at Community Field.
The Bees scored seven times on four hits, while the Paddlers had 10 runs on 14 hits.
Burlington scored once in the first inning on a Kooper Schulte (Iowa) pop up sacrifice fly. Jace Figuereo (SCC) scored on the play.
The Paddlers answered with a big inning in the second. The Bees chipped away with a run in the third and four in the fourth.
Figuereo led off the third inning with a walk, moving to third on a throwing error. He scored on a wild pitch with two outs.
Miles Risley (Iowa) began the fourth with a hit by pitch. After a wild pitch advanced him, Cole Yearsley (Winthrop) picked up an RBI single.
Yearsley moved to third on a passed ball and wild pitch. Keanu Spenser (Hawaii-Pacific) followed with a walk.
Dylan Shepherd (Ohio) grounded out to score one and another combination of error and wild pitch brought Spenser home to tie it.
Quincy broke the 5-5 game with a run in the sixth.
Zane Frese (Winthrop) left four runners in scoring position over two innings in the seventh and eighth.
The Paddlers broke free in the ninth to put the game out of reach.
Burlington showed life in the ninth. Shepherd began with a walk and went to third on a pair of passed balls. Nolan Grawe (SDSU) walked.
A final wild pitch scored one. Grawe would score the game's final run on a balk.
Kyle Smith (UHSP) got the loss. Starter Cody Shaffer got the win for Quincy.
Quincy faces off with the Alton River Dragons (6-5) at QU Stadium at 6:30 p.m tomorrow. The Bees take on Springfield (5-6) at home at 6:30 p.m. June 11.
