Pitching Fuels Split in Quincy

Quincy, IL - The Burlington Bees (7-5) traveled to Quincy for the first time since becoming Doggy Paddlers (5-7).

After a postponement Tuesday, the teams played two 7 inning games. Quincy won the first game 5-2 and Burlington rallied for a 1-0 victory in game 2.

GAME 1:

Both starters battled early. Alex Logan (John Wood CC) tossed three shutout innings to begin. Patrick Wajda for Quincy did the same.

The Bees broke through in the fourth. Nolan Grawe (SDSU) walked to get on base.

In the next at-bat, Keanu Spenser (Hawaii-Pacific) smashed his third homer of the year over the right field fence to make it 2-0.

The Paddlers answered with two solo-shots in the fourth and three runs in the fifth.

Shawn Scott (Austin Peay) threw the final 1.2 innings, striking out three with one hit allowed. Logan registered the loss.

Wajda got the win and Hayden Steelman picked up the save.

Burlington finished with five hits and seven left on base.

GAME 2:

Colten Clarhan (SCC) made his 2025 debut with the start. The righty threw four innings of one hit ball with three strikeouts.

All of the game's offense came in the top of the second inning. Corey Boyette (Lipscomb) worked a one-out walk.

Ryan Skwarek (McHenry) followed with an RBI double to make it 1-0.

That was all the scoring needed; after Clarahan's start, Raul Gil (Highland) tossed two innings, allowing one hit and striking out two.

Braeden Sunken (Maryville) finished the game to get his second save. The righty allowed one hit in the seventh.

Burlington played one of their best defensive games of the year. With no errors, the team had a flurry of clutch plays behind the ball.

Noah Company (Eureka) made a sliding grab in center-field with a runner on third to end the sixth inning.

Skwarek also accounted for a 4-3 double play in the same inning and ended the game on a nifty backhand groundout.

Both teams have the Monday off, before playing against Tuesday at Community Field at 6:30 p.m.
