Burlington Comes Up Short to Clinton

Burlington, IA - Offense was few and far between between the Clinton Lumberkings (7-4) and the Burlington Bees (6-4) at Community Field June 7. 

 

Clinton bested Burlington 4-3, utilizing three runs in the final two innings to take the lead. The Bees put together three runs in the bottom of the ninth, but left the tying run on-base. 

 

The Lumberkings win their second straight against the Bees. The teams are 2-2 against each other in 2025, with the away team winning each of the four contests. 

 

Kaelen Clarkson (Plattsburgh State) shined in the start for Burlington. The lefty hurled five innings, allowing four hits and one earned run. He threw four straight zeros to close his outing. 

 

 The Lumberkings scored once in the first, with their pitching putting together eight shutout innings. The team gave up three runs in the first 17 innings this weekend. 

 

Chance Key got the win in the start. He threw six shutout frames with the same amount of strikeouts. 

 

The Bees left eight runners on base and did not cross home plate until the ninth. 

 

With one out, Nolan Grawe (SDSU) singled to get aboard. He has a hit in every game with the team. 

Ryan Skwarek (McHenry) singled and Dylan Shepherd (Ohio) walked to load the bases. 

 

A wild pitch plated one to get the Bees on the board.

 

 With two outs, Dash Denton (Rock Valley) laced a single to score two and make it a one run game. 

 

The game ended on a groundout. 

 

Clinton travels to Illinois Valley (4-5) for tomorrow. Burlington goes to Quincy to play a 7 inning double-header against the Doggy Paddlers (3-6) at QU Stadium June 8.
