Bees Drop Second Straight at Cornbelters
Normal, IL - The Burlington Bees (1-2) offense was held dormant at the hands of the Normal Cornbelters (3-0), dropping their second straight in a 7-3 final score at the Corn Crib May 29.
Burlington took until the fifth inning to score their first run. Trailing 2-0, Noah Company (Eureka) walked and went from first to third on two wild pitches. Kooper Schulte (Iowa) scored him on an RBI single for his 7th of this season.
The team would not score again until the eighth inning and had fallen into a four run deficit. Griffen Bushnell (Mount Mercy) and Dash Denton (Rock Valley College) worked walks with one out to begin the frame. Ethan McDonald (Eureka) followed with a hit by pitch to load the bases.
Company grounded into a fielder's choice to plate one, and Connor Kave (Harper College) registered an infield single to score another. Kave finished 2-5 on the game.
Normal scored twice in the bottom of the eighth to make it 7-3 and would hang on to win in the ninth.
The Bees finished with four hits, eight walks, nine left on base and five errors.
The team utilized four pitchers. Reese Ellison (Bethel) received his first start and tossed 4.2 innings with nine hits and three earned runs allowed.
Zach Leuschen (Mt.Marty) led the way of the three relievers, tossing 1.2 innings giving up no runs while striking out three
Normal travels to Peru to face off against the Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp tomorrow at 7:05.
Burlington continues their road trip, looking to bounce back against the Clinton Lumberkings (2-1) at NelsonCorp Field at 6:30 p.m. May 30.
