Schulte Kicks Off 2025 with Cycle in Win over Quincy
Burlington, IA - Kooper Schulte (University of Iowa) returned to Community Field with flying colors. The former SCC Blackhawk and Bee began the first inning with a triple and did not look back, hitting for the cycle in a 5 for 5, 5 RBI effort.
The Burlington Bees (1-0) started their 2025 campaign with a 12-4 victory over the Quincy Doggy Paddlers (0-1). The team trailed 3-1 going into the bottom of the third before scoring 10 unanswered runs.
In the fourth inning alone, Burlington scored four runs, capped off with a two-run bomb from Keanu Spenser (Hawaii-Pacific). It was his 11th Bee home run in 52 games with the team.
The team finished with 14 hits and 12 RBI. 7 of the 9 starters got hits, six registered at least one RBI.
Trailing 2-0 going into the bottom of the second, Conor Fitzpatrick (Eureka) and Caleb Seibers (Olney Central CC) registered singles, before Dash Denton (Rock Valley College) reached on an error that allowed one to score.
Schulte registered his home run in the third, which tied it in the third on a high fly to left field. After the big fourth, the Iowa third basemen brought home two more in the following inning with a single.
The Bees made it 10 runs in the sixth on a Denton hit by pitch, before Noah Company (Eureka) singled to score another. Burlington tacked on one more via a Griffen Bushnell (Mount Mercy) RBI in the seventh.
A four pitcher effort controlled the Quincy offense, beginning with Jackson Rodgers' (Western Illinois) 2.2 innings of work. He struck out two and allowed three.
Parker Lewin (Minnesota) entered in the third and received the win. He allowed no runs and had 3 K's over 2.1 innings.
Raul Gil (Highland) went for the next two, striking out three and giving up one run. Jack Duncan (Western Illinois) tossed the final pair, giving up two runs and a run.
Quincy looks to respond in their home opener tomorrow against the Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp (0-1).
Burlington begins a four game road trip, starting with the Normal Cornbelters (0-1) tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. The team returns home Sunday, facing off the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes (1-0).
