Burlington Loses at Home To Springfield

Burlington, IA - The Burlington Bees (17-37, 11-14) dropped their second-to-last home game in seven innings. The Springfield Lucky Horseshoes ( 23-30, 15-12) had eight of their nine hitters register an RBI to obtain victory 15-4 at Community Field July 29.

Burlington scored four unanswered to get within one in the third. Springfield scored 10 in three innings to put it out of hand.

Trailing 5-0 going into the bottom of the second, the Bees offense woke up. Merrick Mathews (University of Iowa) started it off with a single.

Dillion Kuehl (Des Moines Area CC) followed with a hit by pitch to put two aboard. Micheal Carrano Jr (Parkland College) singled to load the bases.

Jace Figuereo (Southeastern CC) hit a sacrifice fly to get Burlington on the Board. It was his 5th RBI in two games.

The Bees kept it going in the third. Skylew Agnew (Hawaii-Pacific) singled and stole second base. Back to back outs brought Mathews up in a crucial situation.

The Hawkeye doubled to score one. He finished two for three with two runs and a RBI.

Kuehl and Carrano Jr. kept it going with RBI hits in the next two at bats. Kuehl has three RBI's on the year and Carrano Jr. has five in eight games.

After the three run inning for Burlington, Springfield scored a pair in the fifth and sixth. The team put it away with six in the seventh.

Four pitchers threw for Burlington. Brady Richards (Sauk Valley CC) made his first start. He allowed seven runs and 11 hits over 4.1.

Jack Duncan (Western-Illinois) went for 0.2. He gave up one earned and three hits.

Luke Kerhli (Mt.Mercy University) surrendered five earned over 1.2. He walked four.

Cedric Dunnwald (Mt.Mercy University) made his regular season pitching debut, getting the last out of the seventh with a strikeout.

The Bees finished with four errors.

Burlington has lost two straight and finishes its home season July 30. The team faces the Clinton Lumberkings (31-21, 16-10) at 6:30 p.m. in This Summer was a BLAST! + Fireworks Night at Community Field.
